Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Dubs Bellingcat Website 'Leak Tool'

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Saturday slammed the UK-based Bellingcat website, which styles itself as "the home of online investigations," for acting as a "took for leaks."

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 13th October, 2018) Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Saturday slammed the UK-based Bellingcat website, which styles itself as "the home of online investigations," for acting as a "took for leaks."

"Information is either circulated by spokespeople or official organizations, or is uncovered by investigative journalists. What is Bellingcat? Is it a news media? Sorry, but it is a tool for leaks," she told Russia's tv Center news channel.

Bellingcat, which is known for publishing unconfirmed reports, made headlines in September with its claims that two Russians, accused by London of a role in the March poisoning of a former Russian double agent, had ties to Russia's foreign intelligence agency.

The website claimed it knew the real Names of the men identified by UK authorities as Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov. Both denied their involvement, saying in an interview to Sputnik and RT they worked in fitness industry and travelled to the English town of Salisbury as tourists.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has argued that the Sergei Skripal poisoning case is falling apart due to a lack of evidence. His ministry has repeatedly asked the UK Foreign Office to share its findings and give Russian diplomats access to the poisoning survivors.
