Russian FSB Says Neutralized 65 Terrorists, Including 10 Masterminds, In Country In 2018

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 11th December, 2018) A total of 65 terrorists, including 10 leaders, have been neutralized and over 230 terror suspects have been arrested in Russia since the beginning of the year, Alexander Bortnikov, the head of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), said on Tuesday.

"The counterterrorist operations and operational combat actions have led to 65 militants being neutralized, including 10 leaders of armed groups. [A total of] 36 leaders, 236 militants and 589 affiliates were detained," Bortnikov said.

The official added that a total of 37 sleeper cells plotting terror attacks in the North Caucasus had been dismantled in the country over the same period.

"Control over migration flows has been strengthened in order to counteract terrorism. The Interior Ministry and the FSB Customs Service have denied entry to the country to more than 10,000 people suspected of terrorist and extremist activities. More than 60 Russian and foreign citizens have not been allowed to leave for the armed conflicts in the middle East," Bortnikov said.
