MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th January, 2019) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his German counterpart, Heiko Maas, will discuss the situation in Ukraine, Syria, Yemen as well as energy and security issues during talks in Moscow on Friday.
The fate of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) is expected to be high on agenda in light of US plans to pull out of the key security accord, according to the German Federal Foreign Office.
The two diplomats may also raise the issue of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline project, under which Russian natural gas would be brought to Europe via the Baltic Sea and a hub in Germany, and future of gas transit through Ukraine.
Addressing the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations last week, Maas announced that he would travel to Russia "to seek direct dialogue" and also to support economic reforms in the country.
