Russian Government Approves Allocation Of $4Mln For WHO's Measles Elimination Initiative

The Russian government said on Saturday that it had approved the draft decree for the allocation of over 270 million rubles (almost $4 million) to the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) so that it could engage in the World Health Organization (WHO) initiative on measles and rubella elimination.
MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th September, 2018) The Russian government said on Saturday that it had approved the draft decree for the allocation of over 270 million rubles (almost $4 million) to the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) so that it could engage in the World Health Organization (WHO) initiative on measles and rubella elimination.
"Approve the draft decree of the government of the Russian Federation on this issue," the government said in a statement, published on its official website.
The decree envisages the allocation of up to 270.44 million rubles to the Rospotrebnadzor in 2018-2020.
The funds will be used for the promotion of measles and rubella elimination in Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Serbia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Mongolia.
The WHO aims at eliminating measles and rubella by 2020 via its Global Vaccine Action Plan. According to the WHO, measles claimed 89,780 lives in 2016, and the disease is most spread in countries with low per capita incomes and poor health services.
