Russian Investigators Say Checking Violations At Primorsky Territory Gubernatorial Vote

VLADIVOSTOK (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th September, 2018) The Russian Investigative Committee's Primorsky Territory department launched checks of reported violations during the local gubernatorial election, the department's spokesperson told Sputnik on Thursday.

"The checks are underway. If we find signs of offenses, criminal cases will be launched. The cases have not been launched yet. Every single violation is checked," the spokesperson said.

On Sunday, the second round of gubernatorial elections was held in the region.

On Wednesday, the Russian Central Election Commission (CEC) said it had registered cases of bribery, ballot stuffing and compulsion to vote during the election and recommended to invalidate the results of the vote.

The recommendation needs to be approved by the local commission in order to come into effect.

Earlier on Thursday, Natalia Kamaeva, the secretary of the Primorsky Territory election commission, told Sputnik she upheld the CEC decision. The official noted, however, the positions of other 14 commission members on the issue would be revealed during its session, which will be held 04:00 GMT on Thursday.
