MANBIJ (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th January, 2019) A Russian aid convoy has brought food and blankets to the village of Saidia north of Manbij in Syria, which was handed over to Syrian troops last month, a Russian Defense Ministry official said Wednesday.
"We have conducted a routine humanitarian mission... in a new area north of Manbij.
We delivered 500 food packages that included canned meat, sugar, flour, rice and tea, as well as warm blankets for children... We also delivered bread because all bakeries here are closed," Pavel Matreninsky from Russia's Syria Reconciliation Center told reporters.
The first delivery to Manbij took place this Monday. The city near the northern Syrian border with Turkey had been in control of US-backed Kurdish fighters who said in December they would let the Syrian government to reclaim it to prevent a Turkish offensive.
