The Russian Defense Ministry is planning to purchase by 2030 over 100 Ilyushin Il-76MD-90A aircraft to be used in military transport and aerial tanker capacity, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov said Thursday

ULYANOVSK (Russia) (UrduPoint news / Sputnik - 21st March, 2019) The Russian Defense Ministry is planning to purchase by 2030 over 100 Ilyushin Il-76MD-90A aircraft to be used in military transport and aerial tanker capacity, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov said Thursday.

"This aircraft is the main item on the list of the defense ministry.

Potentially, the ministry is planning to purchase more than 100 military transport aircraft, and if we add aerial tankers, which are made on the basis of this aircraft, the number increases even further," Borisov, who oversees defense industry in the Russian government, told reporters.

Borisov added that the Aviastar-SP, the manufacturer of Il-76MD-90A, could produce up to 12 aircraft per year starting in 2021.
