The detailed information about the incident with the Russian Il-20 military jet, which was shot down in Syria earlier in the week, will be released by the Russian Defense Ministry on September 23, the ministry said in a press release on Saturday.
MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd September, 2018) The detailed information about the incident with the Russian Il-20 military jet, which was shot down in Syria earlier in the week, will be released by the Russian Defense Ministry on September 23, the ministry said in a press release on Saturday.
"On Sunday, September 23, the Russian Defense Ministry will release the detailed information about the circumstances surrounding the crash of the Russian Aerospace Forces' Il-20 aircraft off the Syrian coast on September 17," the press release said.
According to the ministry, it will provide a per-minute timeline of the tragic incident based on the data of radar systems, which recorded "the situation in airspace in Syria on September 17 and the actions of the Israeli air force in the region.
"
The Russian Hmeimim airbase lost contact with the crew of the Russian Il-20 military aircraft late on Monday during the attack of four Israeli F-16 aircraft on Syrian targets in the province of Latakia. The Russian Defense Ministry said earlier in the week that the Israeli military deliberately created a dangerous situation by using the Russian aircraft as a shield against Syrian air defense systems. As a result, the Il-20 jet was downed by a missile launched by Syria's S-200 air defense system. The incident claimed the lives of 15 Russian servicemen.
