Russian National Vinnik Suspends Hunger Strike in Greek Jail

Russian national Alexander Vinnik, detained in Greece at the request of the United States where he is suspected of money laundering, is suspending his hunger strike, Russian Human Rights Ombudswoman Tatiana Moskalkova said Thursday

ATHENS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st February, 2019) Russian national Alexander Vinnik, detained in Greece at the request of the United States where he is suspected of money laundering, is suspending his hunger strike, Russian Human Rights Ombudswoman Tatiana Moskalkova said Thursday.

Moskalkova visited Vinnik in a Greek prison hospital earlier in the day.

"Vinnik's lawyers have just informed me that he decided to suspend his hunger strike after our meeting," told reporters.

Vinnik was arrested in Greece in July 2017 at a request of the United States, where he is accused of laundering $4 billion to $9 billion through a cryptocurrency exchange. Russia and France also seek his extradition.

He has been on a hunger strike since November 26, 2018.
