Russian, Norwegian Ecologists to Discuss Issue of Marine Debris in November - Ministry

Russian and Norwegian ecologists will discuss the growing problem of marine debris in November in Moscow, the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment said on Friday.

Earlier in the day, Russian Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dmitry Kobylkin met with his Norwegian counterpart Ola Elvestuen on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting on protection of the Arctic environment.

"In addition to discussing joint plans, new topics have been raised, one of which is the issue of managing marine debris and microplastics.

A thematic event will be held in November this year in Moscow. Both Russia and Norway will present their vision of solving the problem," the ministry's statement read.

At the same time, a new session of the Russian-Norwegian Intergovernmental Commission on Economy, Industry and Scientific and Technical Cooperation will take place in the end of October, the Russian ministry noted.

Moreover, the upcoming session of the Russian-Norwegian Commission on Cooperation on Protecting the Environment is slated for February, 2019, according to the ministry.
