Russian Orthodox Church Rules Out Revision of 1686 Act

The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on Monday called "canonically insignificant" the decision of the Constantinople Patriarchate to cancel the act of 1686 on transfer of the Kiev Metropolia under the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th October, 2018) The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on Monday called "canonically insignificant" the decision of the Constantinople Patriarchate to cancel the act of 1686 on transfer of the Kiev Metropolia under the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate.

The Russian Holy Synod decided earlier in the day to completely break the Eucharistic communion with the Patriarchate of Constantinople following the Synod of the Constantinople Patriarchate decision last week to start preparations for the granting of independence to the non-canonical Orthodox Church in Ukraine.

"The Act of 1686, confirming the stay of the Kiev Metropolia as part of the Moscow Patriarchate and signed by the Holy Patriarch of Constantinople Dionysius IV and the Holy Synod of the Church of Constantinople, is not a subject for revision. The decision to revoke it is canonically insignificant," Russian Holy Synod said in a statement.
