The Russian Transport Ministry is working to establish a flight route from the Crimean city of Simferopol to the Syrian capital of Damascus, Transport Minister Yevgeny Dietrich said on Tuesday.
"We are working on that," Dietrich told reporters, asked a relevant question on the sidelines of Transport of Russia forum in Moscow.
In mid-October, a delegation led by head of the Russian republic of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov visited Damascus and held talks with top Syrian officials, including President Bashar Assad, and businesses. During the visit, Crimean and Syrian officials signed a memorandum on economic cooperation. The signed documents, in particular, dealt with the creation of a trading house, shipping company, mutual deliveries of goods, and the establishment of air communication between Syria and Crimea.
