Russian United Shipbuilding Corporation President Says Navy Needs Aircraft Carriers

The Russian Navy needs aircraft carriers bearing in mind its geopolitical interests, President of the Russian United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) Alexey Rakhmanov said on Tuesday.

KUBINKA (Moscow Region) (UrduPoint news / Sputnik - 21st August, 2018) The Russian Navy needs aircraft carriers bearing in mind its geopolitical interests, President of the Russian United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) Alexey Rakhmanov said on Tuesday.

"As long as our geopolitical interests go beyond the borders of our state, landing ships ... should be in our Navy.

Talks are currently being held in this regard on a helicopter carrier, an aircraft carrier, landing ships," Rakhmanov told the Russian Zvezda tv channel.

Rakhmanov suggested that the Russian Defense Ministry had to take the right decision on the new aircraft carrier's size and the timing of its construction.

The Russian Navy currently has one heavy aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov which took part in the anti-terrorist campaign in Syria.
