A meeting of Russian and US experts on the fight against terrorism may be held in February 2019, Viktor Meshkov, the deputy director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Department for New Challenges and Threats, said on Tuesday.
On December 13, US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov held talks in Vienna, during which they agreed that US and Russian experts would meet to discuss whether or not further cooperation on counterterrorism was possible.
"They agreed to continue working on the situation, and to meet at least twice a year in Moscow, in Washington, or in a third state.
Expert-level meetings will be held more often, with the next meeting planned for February [2019]. I do not know how the situation will develop as the global agenda is full of surprises," Meshkov said at a round-table discussion "Diplomacy in the modern world: estimates, challenges, prospects" in Moscow.
Sullivan and Syromolotov have discussed the most pressing issues of the Russian-US counterterrorism partnership and prospective areas for further cooperation.
