Russian, US Positions On Venezuela Incompatible, But Contacts Will Continue - Lavrov

Russia and the United States have agreed to continue contacts, including on Venezuela, although the positions of the two countries on the crisis in this Latin American country are incompatible, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday
Lavrov and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo held a phone conversation on Wednesday.
"Although we have agreed to continue contacts, including on Venezuela, I don't see how to combine positions ... The positions are incompatible, but we are ready to talk," Lavrov said.
Russia's position is based on the UN Charter, as well as on the principles and norms of international law, and the United States attempts to appoint an acting president of another country from Washington, requires legitimate authorities capitulate and threatens to use force, along with suffocating sanctions in order to change the leadership, the minister explained.
"As I understand, Mike Pompeo has called to say later that he called me and urged not to interfere. He did it and I think that we have put an end to this so far," Lavrov added.
