Russia's Knyaz Vladimir, Kazan Nuclear Submarines to Enter Service in 2019 - Shoigu

Russia's nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine Knyaz Vladimir and nuclear-powered attack submarine Kazan will enter service with the Russian Navy before the end of 2019, Russian Defense Minister Shoigu said on Tuesday

SEVERODVINSK (Arkhangelsk Region) (UrduPoint news / Sputnik - 12th March, 2019) - Russia's nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine Knyaz Vladimir and nuclear-powered attack submarine Kazan will enter service with the Russian Navy before the end of 2019, Russian Defense Minister Shoigu said on Tuesday.

"The completion of construction of nuclear-powered submarines Knyaz Vladimir and Kazan and their commissioning with the Russian Navy are the priority tasks for the United Shipbuilding Corporation, Sevmash and a range of engineering organizations. According to the order by the supreme commander-in-chief [of the Russian Armed Forces, Russian President Vladimir Putin] the entire work package should be completed this year," Shoigu said at a meeting in Severodvinsk.

The defense minister voiced the belief that these vessels would determine the future image of the Russian submarine fleet, boost the country's defense capacities and strengthen its position in the Pacific Ocean.

At least four submarines and seven warships will be built for the Russian Navy before the end of the year, according to Shoigu.
