Russia's Ryazan region plans on cooperating with the US state of Utah in areas such as trade and tourism in the near future, the Russian region's government said Friday in a statement.
"Ryazan region actively supports permanent trade and economic cooperation with more than 100 countries. In the short term, the state of Utah can become one of the partners of the region," the statement reads.
Ryazan Region Governor Nikolai Lyubimov said that tourism could become one of the catalysts that drive the relationship between the region and state.
"Industry is very developed [in Utah]. We want our export-oriented enterprises to present their products there and agree on deliveries. It is necessary that our economy develops, overcoming sanctions.
Tourism can also become a driver of our relations," Lyubimov was quoted as saying in the statement.
He also sent a greeting to the participants of the US-Russian Business Council's (USRBC) annual meeting, which is currently ongoing in New York. A representative of the Ryazan region is also taking part in the meeting.
In his address, Lyubimov stressed that the council's work on expanding international commercial relations, supporting cooperation between enterprises of Russia and the United States, and creating opportunities for development of mutually beneficial business were highly appreciated. He also expressed confidence that the region's great potential as a major investment platform would be of interest to the US business community.
