Russky Island May Turn Into Russia's 'Silicon Valley' - Russian Deputy Prime Minister

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Maxim Akimov said on Wednesday that he believed Russia's Russky island might one day become an analogue of the United States' famed technology hub Silicon Valley, taking into account the intellectual resources concentrated in the region.

VLADIVOSTOK (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 12th September, 2018) Russian Deputy Prime Minister Maxim Akimov said on Wednesday that he believed Russia's Russky island might one day become an analogue of the United States' famed technology hub Silicon Valley, taking into account the intellectual resources concentrated in the region.

On the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) being held on Russky island on September 11-13, Akimov was asked whether the island could one day become Russia's "Silicon Valley."

"First of all, considerable intellectual resources have already been concentrated here ... Secondly, certainly, if we create attractive educational, financial legislation .

.. do everything [needed] relating to conditions of stay, including for specialists, digital businesses and researchers, then it is certainly not only possible, but also very viable," the Russian deputy prime minister said.

Earlier on Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the country's government during the EEF plenary session to formulate a special status for the island that would enable testing of advanced technologies there, including those which are not currently regulated by the country's legislation.
