SEOUL, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Jan, 2019 ) :South Korea and China will hold working-level talks over their maritime demarcation in Xiamen, eastern China, this week, Seoul's foreign ministry said Wednesday.
The two-day meeting is to begin Thursday. South Korea's delegation will be led by Bae Jong-in, director general of the ministry's international law affairs bureau, and his counterpart will be Wang Xiaodu, ambassador for Yellow Sea affairs at China's foreign ministry.
Since the launch of vice-ministerial talks on the issue in December 2015, Seoul and Beijing have held four director-general meetings.
Seoul has demanded that the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) be demarcated by drawing a median line. Beijing has argued that the coasts and the population along them must be taken into account to conduct a proportional EEZ demarcation.
The EEZ is a sea zone that a country has special rights over regarding the explorationand use of marine resources. It stretches out to 200 nautical miles from the coastline.
