S. Korean president joins int'l call for fight against drugs

South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Monday pledged active support for the international war against drugs, also signing a joint call for immediate action.

NEW YORK, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Sep, 2018 ) -:South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Monday pledged active support for the international war against drugs, also signing a joint call for immediate action.

The joint call came in a special meeting sponsored by U.S. President Donald Trump and co-sponsored by the leaders of 30 other nations, including South Korea, China and Russia.

"The meeting is expected to lead to stepped-up efforts by each country to deal with drug problems as the leaders reaffirmed their pledge to implement the international drug control conventions while adopting a joint statement that calls for domestic measures to handle drug problems," Moon's presidential office Cheong Wa Dae said in a press release.

The joint statement, titled the "Global Call to Action on the World Drug Problem," calls for efforts to curb both the demand and supply of illegal narcotics in each country, along with increased support for those addicted to drugs, according to Cheong Wa Dae.

Moon arrived here Sunday for a four-day visit that will include a bilateral summit with President Trump.

He will also hold bilateral summits with his counterparts from Chile, Egypt and Spain.
