Samsung Electronics Co. and its medical instrument arm Samsung Medison Co. on Monday showcased various software for different medical devices powered by artificial intelligence technologies.
Samsung said they unveiled the new solutions at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) 2018 that runs in the United States through Friday.
At the latest gathering, the tech giant introduced the S-Detect for Breast, which analyzes breast lesions using ultrasound images. The system helps doctors come up with accurate diagnoses based on big data, the company added.
"By using AI technology, the Bone Suppression function, which reduces the bone signal from the chest X-ray image, clearly brings out the lung tissues obscured by the bones," Samsung said.
Samsung also displayed a mobile computed tomography (CT) device with AI software that assists in the diagnosis of stroke.
As for MRI devices, Samsung showcased a prototype software that compares images of patients and normal people through the AI technology, helping doctors better analyze the conditions.
Samsung said such AI software is significant as it can effectively help patients receive better treatment in regions where there is a shortage of doctors.
"We are pleased that Samsung's AI technologies have been successfully applied to the existing diagnostic imaging devices and have been well-received in the market," Samsung Medison said.
"As a comprehensive diagnostic imaging solution provider, we will continue to strengthen our technologies through collaboration with hospitals and health care professionals," the company said. "We aim to bring together radiologists and AI to fill in the gaps for improved health care management."
