Saudi Ambassador in Berlin Says Not Ruling Out Any Response to Oil Facility Attacks

Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Germany Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said on Thursday that all options were on the table regarding a military response to Iran, which Riyadh accused of being behind the recent attacks on Saudi Aramco facilities

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th September, 2019) Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Germany Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said on Thursday that all options were on the table regarding a military response to Iran, which Riyadh accused of being behind the recent attacks on Saudi Aramco facilities.

"Of course, everything is on the table, but it needed to be discussed well," the ambassador told Deutschlandfunk radio station in response to a question about a possible retaliatory attack by Saudi Arabia on Iran.

At the same time, the ambassador noted that any move on the part of Saudi Arabia would depend on the next steps Iran took, adding that a de-escalation scenario was also possible.

"Now everything depends on the world community's approach to this topic. Of course, we hope that Iran can be convinced that this is unacceptable and that Tehran is responsible for its actions, and that de-escalation is possible.

However, it is predominantly in Iran's hands," he stated.

The ambassador added that Riyadh was sure Iran was behind the attacks and that the launch of the drones would not have been possible without Tehran's participation.

On Saturday, the drone attack on Saudi Aramco forced the national oil company to shut down its Abqaiq and Khurais oil facilities, which resulted in a more than twofold drop in Saudi Arabia's net oil output. Although responsibility for the attack was claimed by the military wing of Yemen's Ansar Allah movement, also known as the Houthis, the United States and Saudi Arabia have put the blame on Iran.

On Wednesday, the Saudi Defense Ministry held a press conference to present what it described as evidence of Iran's involvement in the attack. Tehran has refuted the accusations.
