Saudi Foreign Minister Denies Involvement of Crown Prince in Khashoggi Murder

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Jubeir denied on Thursday any involvement of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in the murder of opposition journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

CAIRO (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th November, 2018) Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Jubeir denied on Thursday any involvement of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in the murder of opposition journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

"His Highness has nothing to do with this incident," Jubeir said at a press conference in Riyadh aired by Al-Arabiya television.

Earlier on Thursday, the Saudi Prosecutor General's Office said 21 people had been detained in the Khashoggi murder case, with 11 of them charged. Prosecutors were demanding the death penalty for five of them.

Jubeir also said that Saudi Arabia considers Khashoggi's murder as a crime and a big mistake.

The minister stressed, though, that the incident will not affect the country's domestic and foreign policies.

"Despite all the uproar in the world and local media, Saudi Arabia does not intend to abandon the basic principles of its policy concerning the fight against terrorism and extremism, and in maintaining stability in the oil market," Jubeir said.
