Senior Russian Lawmaker Proposes UNSC To Have Special Meeting In Light Of Sri Lanka Blasts

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st April, 2019) Frants Klintsevich, a member of the Russian upper house's defense and security committee, expressed condolences on Sunday to those affected by the deadly explosions in Sri Lanka and proposed the UN Security Council to hold a special session on counterterrorism in light of the latest events.
"The horrendous crimes in Sri Lanka have only reaffirmed the urgent need for the closest coordination of efforts of all countries and, above all, of their special services in the fight against international terrorism ... Perhaps it is worth thinking about holding a special meeting of the UN Security Council that would be devoted to these issues," Klintsevich wrote on Facebook.
The lawmaker went on to expresses condolences to the families of victims of the explosions.
Eight blasts took place in Sri Lanka on the Easter day, hitting several churches with Catholic worshipers and hotels in the country's capital of Colombo and other cities. The Sri Lankan authorities had declared a curfew across the country following the attacks.
According to latest media reports, over 200 people have fallen victims of the attacks. Seven people were detained in connection to the explosions.
