SEOUL (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th September, 2018) North Korea and South Korea agreed to cease large-scale artillery exercises and military flights near the demilitarized zone to prevent incidents, according to a military agreement between the two Korean states signed in Pyongyang after a summit.
"Both sides decided to cease military exercises directed against each other near the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) from November 1 ... It was decided to completely stop the artillery drills and field exercises of more than a regiment at a distance of 5 kilometers from the MDL," the document says.
In addition, the parties agreed to impose a ban on flights of all military aircraft near the buffer zone from the same date.
The buffer zone will be declared within 40 kilometers from the military demarcation line in its eastern part and within 20 kilometers in its western part. For rotary-wing aircraft, flights will be banned at a distance of more than 10 kilometers from the military demarcation line. There are also restrictions for drone flights within the buffer zone.
The agreement was signed by the defense ministers of the two Korean states following the summit in Pyongyang.
