Seoul, Pyongyang To Begin Withdrawal Of Troops From Demilitarized Zone - Agreement

SEOUL (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th September, 2018) North Korea and South Korea have decided to withdraw troops from the demilitarized zone (DMZ) and disarm military personnel at the shared border village of Panmunjom, according to the military agreement signed by the two countries in Pyongyang on Wednesday.
The agreement was signed by the defense ministers of the two countries in the presence of South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
"Both sides have agreed to fully withdraw guard posts of the South and the North at a distance of more than 1 kilometer as experimental measures for the complete withdrawal of guard posts from the demilitarized zone," the document read.
The agreement also provides for the demilitarization of the "joint security area" in Panmunjom.
