LANGKAWI (Malaysia) (UrduPoint news / Sputnik - 26th March, 2019) Several service centers for different types of helicopters will be built in China under a contract with Russia, Viktor Kladov, the director for international cooperation and regional policy at Russian state corporation Rostec, told Sputnik on Tuesday.
Kladov is currently attending the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition in Malaysia, where nine Russian defense industry companies are showcasing their products.
"Several service centers for helicopters will be created in China. An aircraft plant for overhauling military transport helicopters is undergoing certification in [central Chinese city of] Chengdu.
There is a project to create build a [service] center in Tianjin. A draft general contract has already been agreed on there, it is expected to be signed in the near future. There is [also] a [service center] project in Shenzhen," Kladov said.
According to the Rostec executive, different types of service centers will be created in the country to repair various helicopter models.
"If, for example, [the Chinese] Navy is operating the Ka-31 [military helicopter], then a center for the overhaul and maintenance of these helicopters needs to be set up in Changhai, on the coast," Kladov added.
China currently operates around 300 Soviet- and Russian-built helicopters.
