Sheikh Hasina’s Son Claims His Mother To Return Bangladesh Soon

In an interview to an Indian news outlet Saqib Wajid, son of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid, makes this revelation

DHAKA: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-August 9th, 2024) Following the recent surge of anti-government protests in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina's administration has collapsed, leading her to flee the country to India.

In light of these events, her son, Sajib Wajid, has issued several statements concerning her potential return to Bangladesh.

During an interview with the Times of India, Sajib Wajid asserted that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would come back to Bangladesh around the time of the elections, though he did not specify if she would be participating as a candidate.

Sajib Wajid remarked, "Politics was never a significant interest of mine, but if the situation demands, I won't shy away from stepping into it."

He further expressed his belief that the Awami League would not only contest the upcoming election but also have a strong chance of winning. "My mother is currently in India, and she will return as soon as the elections are announced."

Previously, Sajib Wazed had indicated that his mother was deeply disheartened by the country's situation and had no intentions of re-entering politics.

However, he later revised his stance, emphasizing that the Awami League is Bangladesh's oldest and most prominent party. "We cannot abandon our people in this manner. Once democracy is reinstated in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina will undoubtedly return."

A few days ago, under immense pressure from student-led protests, Sheikh Hasina Wazed, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, resigned and sought refuge in India.

Following her departure, the military chief assumed control of Bangladesh and announced the establishment of an interim government, with Nobel Peace prize winner Dr. Muhammad Yunus appointed as its head.

During a press briefing, Army Chief General Waqul Zaman stated that the interim government would comprise 15 members, though the final decision on the cabinet's composition is still pending.
