The draft text of the Brexit deal, agreed by the UK government and the European Union earlier this week, makes no mention of Scotland, showing an "utter contempt" to the Scottish government and people, Ian Blackford, the leader of the Scottish National Party (SNP) at Westminster, said on Thursday.
MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th November, 2018) The draft text of the Brexit deal, agreed by the UK government and the European Union earlier this week, makes no mention of Scotland, showing an "utter contempt" to the Scottish government and people, Ian Blackford, the leader of the Scottish National Party (SNP) at Westminster, said on Thursday.
The UK cabinet confirmed on Tuesday that the United Kingdom and the European Union had agreed a draft Brexit text. Earlier on Thursday, UK Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab said he was resigning over his disagreement with the divorce deal.
"Scotland is not once mentioned in the document ... Not once have Scotland's unique characteristics and a devolved settlement been mentioned. And yet, one hundred mentions of Northern Ireland, mentions of Gibraltar, of Cyprus, of the Isle of Man ... Utter contempt has once again been shown to the Scottish government, its parliament and its people," Blackford said at a meeting in the House of Commons.
The United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union in a referendum in June 2016 and is expected to do so by late March 2019.
