Some 770 Refugees Returned to Syria Within 24 Hours - Russian Defense Ministry

About 770 refugees returned to Syria from foreign states within last 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for the Reception, Allocation and Accommodation of Refugees said on Wednesday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 12th December, 2018) About 770 refugees returned to Syria from foreign states within last 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for the Reception, Allocation and Accommodation of Refugees said on Wednesday.

"Over the past 24 hours, a total of 768 refugees returned to the Syrian Arab Republic from the territory of foreign states: 183 people left Lebanon for Syria via the Jaydet-Yabus and Talkalakh checkpoints (55 women and 93 children); 585 people (176 women and 298 children) returned from Jordan via the Nassib checkpoint," the center said in its daily bulletin.

Along with the refuges, 292 internally displaced persons in Syria returned home within last 24 hours.

Syrian engineering units have cleared of mines 10.4 hectares of land, destroying 44 explosive devices, including six improvised explosive devices, the center added.

The bulletin added that within last 24 hours the Chechen Republic's Akhmad Kadyrov Foundation carried out one humanitarian operation in the city of Aleppo. Moreover, 38 people, including 22 children, received medical assistance in the settlement of Salhiyah in the province of Deir ez-Zor.

Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with the government forces fighting against numerous opposition groups and terrorist organizations. As the Syrian government has regained control over most of the country's territories that were seized by terrorists, it is now focused on creating favorable conditions for repatriating refugees. Moscow is assisting Damascus in this process, along with providing humanitarian aid to civilians and being a guarantor of the ceasefire.
