South Iran Hit by 5.3-Magnitude Earthquake - US Geological Survey

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 10th February, 2019) Southern Iran was his on Sunday by a 5.3-magnitude earthquake, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said while local media reported about three people injured as a result of the tremors.

The earthquake was registered at 10:54 a.m. GMT. The epicenter of the quake was located 73 kilometers (about 120 miles) west of the city of Qeshm in the province of Hormozgan, at the depth of 10 kilometers.

According to the IRNA news agency, three people were injured by the earthquake, including a 17-year-old girl. All the injured people were sent to a hospital.

Local authorities said that the earthquake had reportedly damaged 15 residential hoses.

Iran is located in a seismically active zone and often suffers from powerful earthquakes. The deadliest earthquake in the country occurred in 856 AD in the northern part of the country killing some 200,000 people.
