South Korea Launches Crisis Management Center As Typhoon Threat Looms - Reports

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd August, 2018) South Korea has launched a crisis management center as a powerful typhoon is approaching the country, local media reported on Wednesday.

On Monday, the country's president, Moon Jae-in, ordered to prepare measures to minimize damage and casualties from Typhoon Soulik.

The crisis management center, which is headed by top presidential security aide, National Security Office director Chung Eui-yong, started its work on Tuesday, the Yonhap news agency reported.

According to Korea Meteorological Administration, Typhoon Soulik is expected to reach South Korea's southwestern coast early on Thursday.

Weather forecasters expect Soulik to take a path similar to that of Typhoon Kompasu, which left 17 people dead or injured and caused damage of $157 million as it hit South Korea in 2010.
