South Korea's Jeju Air Ordering 50 Boeing 737 MAX Aircraft Just Weeks After Lion Air Crash

South Korea's Jeju Air low cost airline is ordering up to 50 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, the world's largest aerospace company said in a statement.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th November, 2018) South Korea's Jeju Air low cost airline is ordering up to 50 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, the world's largest aerospace company said in a statement.

The order was placed in the wake of the Lion Air Flight JT610 crash in Indonesia on October 29, involving the same type of aircraft, due to reported instrument malfunction.

"Boeing [NYSE:BA] and Jeju Air announced the airline is ordering 40 737 MAX 8 airplanes with options for 10 additional jets. The deal, valued at up to $5.9 billion at list prices, is the largest order ever placed by a Korean low cost carrier and reflects rising demand for air travel in South Korea," the statement issued on Monday reads.

Earlier in November, Boeing said it had issued a safety bulletin for the operators of the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, warning them about potentially erroneous data provided by the flight-control software in light of the recent Lion Air plane crash in Indonesia.

Lion Air Flight JT610, en route to the Indonesian city of Pangkal Pinang, lost contact with air traffic control shortly after departure from Jakarta. Then, the plane fell into the Java Sea, killing all 189 people on board.
