MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th January, 2019) Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta said on Wednesday that the attack on the Dusit hotel complex in Nairobi had claimed lives of 14 people, with all the attackers having been eliminated as a result of a special operation which already concluded.
On Tuesday, militants stormed the Dusit hotel complex in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi. The country's law enforcement bodies view the assault as a terrorist attack.
"The security operation at Dusit is over and the terrorists eliminated. As of this moment, we have confirmation that 14 innocent lives were lost through the hands of these murderous terrorists with other injured," Kenyatta said as quoted by Kenya's Citizen Digital online news portal.
According to the Kenyan president, a total of 700 civilians had been evacuated from the hotel complex during and after the attack.
"We will seek out every person that was involved in the funding, planning and execution of this heinous act. We will pursue relentlessly wherever they will be until they are held to account," Kenyatta stressed.
The Islamist terror group Al Shabaab, which operates mainly in neighboring Somalia, claimed responsibility for the gun-and-bomb attack. An American and a UK citizen are said to be among those killed.
