State Dept. Tells US Court Russia Did Not Agree to Trial in Election Meddling Case- Filing

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st November, 2018) The Department of State has informed a US Federal court that Russia did not give consent to the trial in a 2016 election meddling case, according to a legal filing released on Tuesday.

"The Ministry has the honor of confirming that the Russian Federation has not given nor does it mean to give consent to the trial of this case in US courts," the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a communication to the US Embassy in Moscow.

On November 10, Russia's Justice Ministry filed a document in a US federal court stating that the Russian government would not submit itself to US jurisdiction regarding complaints filed by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) tied to election meddling allegations.

"Exercise in US courts of jurisdiction with respect to the Russian Federation in the case in question is a violation of international law," the filing released by the State Department on Tuesday stated.

Russia has repeatedly denied allegations that it meddled in the 2016 US presidential election, insisting that it does not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries.

US President Donald Trump has also rejected accusations of collusion and has repeatedly denounced ongoing Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe as a "witch hunt" that has not produced evidence in well over a year.
