State of Emergency Entails More Areas in Northwestern Mexico Amid Flooding - Authorities

MEXICO CITY (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd September, 2018) The Mexican authorities declared the state of emergency across 11 municipalities of the northwestern state of Sonora amid heavy monsoon flooding in the area, the Mexican Office for National Defense has said.

The authorities have already introduced the state of emergency in 11 municipalities of the neighboring Sinaloa state, where three people were reportedly killed and three others went missing due to the floods.

In Sonora, the situation claimed a life of a minor who was swept away by the flooding, the Excelsior news outlet reported.

Declaring the state of emergency allows states' authorities to ask the central government for Federal emergency support funds.
