MEXICO CITY (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 11th December, 2018) An exhibition of photographs by finalists of the Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest, organized by Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency under the aegis of the Commission of Russia for UNESCO, has opened in Mexico for a third time.
Andrey Pakhomov, the director of the representative office of the Russian foreign cooperation agency (Rossotrudnichestvo) in Mexico, told Sputnik that a total of 44 images from the 2017 contest were showcased in the Russian-Mexican cultural center in the city of Puebla.
"It [the exhibition] coincided with the national forum of graduates of Soviet and Russian universities, it was opened by Russian Ambassador [to Argentina] Viktor Koronelli during his trip to Puebla ... Andrei Stenin gave his life so that people could learn the truth about the tragic events in Donbas. Journalism is turning into a very dangerous profession. There have been a lot of cases in Mexico as well when journalists disappeared or died trying to convey objective information to citizens," Pakhomov said, adding that the photo exhibition would be open until January 2019.
The first exhibition was held in Mexico city at the end of 2017, while the second one took place in February this year.
The contest is named after Rossiya Segodnya's photo correspondent Andrei Stenin who was killed while covering the conflict in the east of Ukraine in 2014.
