Suspected IS Member Detained in Germany - Prosecutor General

BERLIN (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th November, 2018) German Public Prosecutor General's office said on Friday that a suspected member of the Islamic State (IS, banned in Russia) terrorist group, prosecutor's office said in a statement on Friday.

The 32-year-old Syrian citizen Mohamed A.G. was detained in the German city of Kassel on suspicion of being a member of the IS, the Prosecutor General's Office said.

According to the investigation, in August 2013, the accused joined IS in Syria. Until the mid-2015, he had participated in several battles on terrorists' side, and also served as a camp guard. On Thursday, German Federal Court of Justice decided to arrest the suspect.

The IS is an international terror organization that is actively spreading ideas of radical islam across the world. The group occupied huge territories in Syria and Iraq in 2014, which were later retaken by the countries' respective governments.
