Suspected Murderer of Bulgarian Journalist Marinova Extradited to Bulgaria - Reports

Germany extradited on Wednesday Severin Krasimirov, a suspect in the case of murder of Bulgarian journalist Viktoria Marinova, to Bulgaria, where he would have to appear before the court, local media reported.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th October, 2018) Germany extradited on Wednesday Severin Krasimirov, a suspect in the case of murder of Bulgarian journalist Viktoria Marinova, to Bulgaria, where he would have to appear before the court, local media reported.

On October 10, Bulgarian citizen Krasimirov, 21, was detained in Germany and charged with rape and murder of Marinova. His extradition to the homeland was then authorized by Higher Regional Court of Celle, the German state of Lower Saxony.

The plane carrying Krasimirov landed in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia at 6:18 p.m. local time (15:18 GMT), Bulgaria's Nova tv channel reported.

On Thursday, he will be transported under escort to the Bulgarian city of Ruse for court hearings, the broadcaster added.

TV host of TVN Bulgaria channel Marinova, 30, was killed in Bulgaria's northern city of Ruse on October 6. The investigators were examining a version alleging that the journalist's murder might have been related to the investigation into the embezzlement of the EU funds, which she had conducted recently.

Krasimirov admitted partial guilt but denied the charges of rape and premeditated murder. Krasimirov stated that he hit the journalist in face and pushed her into the bush on the riverbank of the Danube, after which the woman died due to severe injuries. He may face a life sentence for the deliberate murder committed with extreme atrocity, according to the Bulgarian prosecution.
