NUR-SULTAN (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 26th April, 2019) Syria will not become a safe country until prisoners are released and the fate of all missing people is clarified, the head of the Syrian opposition delegation to the Astana-12 talks, Ahmad Tomah, told Sputnik.
"There will be no safe environment in Syria until prisoners are released and the fate of those missing is clarified," Tomah said.
He pointed out that negotiators had been putting more emphasis on these issues at the Astana-format talks on the Syrian reconciliation.
"I think that the Syrian authorities are currently subjected to significant pressure from all parties, including Russia .
.. This issue must be finally solved," Tomah noted.
The opposition delegation's head added that some studies of the situation in Syria showed that the Syrian government had not created satisfactory conditions for return of refugees to the Arab country. From his point of view, people in Syria are still facing detentions and murders.
The Astana-12 high-level meeting on Syria is taking place in the Kazakh capital of Nur-Sultan from Thursday to Friday.
