DAMASCUS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th October, 2018) Syrian authorities believe that country's security has significantly improved after Russia delivered the S-300 air defense systems to the country, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem told Sputnik on Monday.
"As for the security that we feel due to the presence of the S-300, then yes, we are more secure, and this is our right to be more protected before the Israeli and other attacks," Muallem said.
On October 2, Moscow completed the deliveries of new S-300 air defense systems to Damascus in a move to boost security of the Russian troops in the middle Eastern country following the fatal crash of the Russian Il-20 plane that the Russian Defense Ministry holds the Israeli Air Force responsible for.
Israel's jets used the Russian aircraft as a shield against Syrian air defense systems, according to Russia's military.
The Syrian crisis has been raging on for over seven years, with the government fighting various opposition movements and terrorist groups. The settlement process has been conducted in the Astana and Geneva formats.
Russia, along with Turkey and Iran, is the guarantor of the ceasefire in Syria, and has also been assisting Damascus by supporting the government forces' fight against terrorist groups and providing humanitarian aid to civilians.
