GENOA (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd April, 2019) The delegation of the Syrian opposition at the upcoming 12th round of the Astana-format talks in the Kazakh capital will include four new members, seeking to increase the representation of the Kurds, tribes and women, Ayman Asimi, the head of the media committee in the opposition delegation to Astana, told Sputnik.

"The opposition delegation has a number of new people who were added to it ... There are four new members to increase the Kurdish presence and the presence of the tribes and to strengthen the role of women in the delegation," Asimi said, adding that he would attend the talks in Nur-Sultan as well.

One of the new members is Rami Doush, the head of the Syrian Tribal Council, according to Asimi.

"The representative of the Kurds is a respectable and appropriate figure and is considered to be one of the accepted figures both in the Arab society and in the Kurdish society," he added.

Asimi stressed that adding a woman to the delegation would be "an enhancement of the role of women in the future of Syria."

"Dr. Ahmad Tomah will head the delegation," Asimi said.

Tomah led the opposition delegation representing armed groups at the previous rounds of talks.

The high-level meeting in the Kazakh capital of Nur-Sultan on the Syrian settlement is set to take place from April 25 to April 26. The Kazakh Foreign Ministry announced that UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen had accepted the invitation to take part in the talks.
