MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd January, 2019) A Syrian soldier was killed and two others were injured as a result of shelling by militants in Syria's Latakia and Hama provinces, head of the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for Syrian Reconciliation Lt. Gen. Sergei Solomatin said.
"A soldier of the Syrian Armed Forces was killed as a result of shelling of a settlement ... in Latakia province, two servicemen ... suffered injuries as a result of shelling of Nika settlement in Hama province," Solomatin said.
Over the past 24 hours, the Reconciliation Center delivered 500 food baskets to Deir Asad settlement, Solomatin added, stressing that as of January 21, over 31,000 residential buildings and 133 medical institutions have been restored in Syria.
Since 2017, Russia has been one of the three guarantors of the ceasefire in Syria, which has been engulfed in a civil war for years. The Russian armed forces have been providing military assistance to Damascus throughout the conflict, while also carrying out regular humanitarian operations across the country. Russia is now assisting Syria in the post-war reconstruction and the return of refugees.
