MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th September, 2018) Syria's grand mufti Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun warned Wednesday of a potential spillover of terrorism into Europe and former Soviet states.
"There is a potential threat of terrorist networks spreading from Syria to neighboring countries, Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States," he said in Moscow.
Addressing the Russian Council of Muftis at the main Moscow mosque, Hassoun thanked Russia for its role in freeing large swathes of Syrian land from terrorists and foreign mercenaries, which allowed displaced Syrians to return to their homes.
In turn, Russia's grand mufti Ravil Gainutdin said he hoped peace would be soon restored in Syria after the last pockets of insurgency had been cleared.
