Tanzania Wants To Become More Attractive Tourism Destination For Russians - Ambassador

Tanzania hopes to promote itself as a tourism destination for Russian tourists against the backdrop of the industry's growing share in the national GDP, Simon Marco Mumwi, Tanzania's ambassador to Russia, said during a presentation devoted to the country's tourism industry on Thursday
MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st February, 2019) Tanzania hopes to promote itself as a tourism destination for Russian tourists against the backdrop of the industry's growing share in the national GDP, Simon Marco Mumwi, Tanzania's ambassador to Russia, said during a presentation devoted to the country's tourism industry on Thursday.
"[It is] our endeavor to promote tourism to Tanzania in Russia ... The sector of tourism makes up around 12 percent of the GDP and in the next few years there is a potential to improve," Marco Mumwi said.
Mumwi added that Russian tourists were increasingly choosing Tanzania as a tourism destination.
"The number of tourists grew from 7,435 in 2016 to 10,610 in 2017," the ambassador noted, adding that last year was very successful in terms of the number of Russian tourists who visited Tanzania.
The diplomat expressed hope that the statistics for 2018 would show that as many as 15,000 Russian tourists visited Tanzania that year.
