Tehran Remains Fully Compliant With JCPOA as US Continues Trying to Block Deal - Moscow

Iran fully meets its obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal, while the United States tries to block its implementation, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Friday

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th March, 2019) Iran fully meets its obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal, while the United States tries to block its implementation, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Friday.

"Iran strictly complies with all relevant requirements [under the JCPOA], this is regularly confirmed by the IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency]. Nuclear activities in this country are under the constant control of the agency and are an example of transparency," Zakharova said at a briefing.

According to Zakharova, Iran fully implements the agreement in terms of its pledge to convert an uranium enrichment facility in Fordow into a facility that produces stable isotopes. Russian nuclear energy experts have lent their assistance on this particular project, Zakharova added.

The spokeswoman underlined that US actions aimed at preventing the implementation of the nuclear deal were a source of concern for all parties to the agreement.

US-Iranian relations deteriorated in May when US President Donald Trump announced his country's decision to withdraw from the JCPOA and reimpose its sanctions on Tehran that had been lifted when the agreement was signed in 2015. The first package of restrictions came into force in August, followed by a second in November.

In the wake of this decision, the other parties to the JCPOA China, France, Germany, Iran, Russia, the United Kingdom and the European Union expressed their commitment to the accord and began working to create tools to bypass the sanctions.
