WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th October, 2018) The US Department of Justice said in a press release on Wednesday that Marq Perez of Texas will spend more than 24 years behind bars for burning down a mosque last year.

"The Justice Department today announced that Marq Perez, 26, was sentenced to more than 24 years in prison for burning down the Victoria Islamic Center on Jan.

In July, a jury found Perez guilty of a hate crime for burning down the mosque and for using fire to commit a Federal felony.

A witness testified that Perez wanted to burn down the mosque to "send a message" and when he found out the community had raised enough money to rebuild the mosque threatened to burn it down again.
