The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Should Check Alleged Nuclear Sites in Iran Found by Israeli Intelligence - Bolton

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) should check the sites in Iran, detected by the Israeli intelligence, where non-peaceful nuclear research was allegedly carried out, US National Security Adviser John Bolton said at the United Against Nuclear Iran Summit in New York

NEW YORK (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 26th September, 2018) The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) should check the sites in Iran, detected by the Israeli intelligence, where non-peaceful nuclear research was allegedly carried out, US National Security Adviser John Bolton said at the United Against Nuclear Iran Summit in New York.

In late April, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that his country had come to possess a large archive proving that Iranian nuclear program had a secret military component. Netanyahu stressed that Iran breached its international commitments by keeping the program secret and preserving the remaining data for future use.

"The United States also expects the International Atomic Energy Agency to exercise its authorities to the fullest extent possible to ensure that Iran's nuclear activities have stopped, including in any locations newly identified by Israeli intelligence, which has proven beyond the shadow of the doubt that Tehran had an active and aggressive military nuclear program," Bolton said on Tuesday.

The US national security adviser stressed that the IAEA should have access to any civilian or military facility in Iran for an inspection. Bolton added that the United States was ready to use a number of appropriate options in case it found that Iran was expanding its nuclear activities.

In May, the United States announced it was withdrawing from the 2015 nuclear agreement. The other participants of the deal, however, including Iran itself, China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the European Union, remained committed to it. The United States is reintroducing its sanctions against Iran, including extraterritorial ones, in two stages: the first one was activated in August, while the second set of sanctions, concerning the sales of oil and related products, will be reimposed on November 4.
