BRUSSELS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd March, 2019) Around a dozen suspects who are believed to have been involved in the 2016 Brussels bombings may be put on trial in late 2020 at the former NATO headquarters in the Belgian capital, local media reported on Friday, citing the country's Federal Public Prosecutor's Office.
On Friday, Belgium commemorates the third anniversary of the deadly terrorist attacks that took place at Brussels Airport and a metro station in the city center and claimed the lives of 32 people and three terrorists.
The former NATO headquarters may be chosen as the venue for the trial because it would be easier to ensure adequate security measures there, Le Soir newspaper reported.
Around 10-12 people are expected to appear in court, including the man who was allegedly supposed to have detonated a bomb at the airport along with two other terrorists but, for some reason, failed to do so and was arrested in early April that year.
On March 22, 2016, two explosions hit Brussels Airport, with a third bomb detonating inside a train car at Maalbeek metro station in the center of the Belgian capital soon afterwards. The Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia) has claimed responsibility for the attack.
