Trump Administration To Enhance Efforts To Reduce Visa Overstays - White House

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd April, 2019) The Trump administration is enhancing its efforts to identify the root cause and reduce the number of visa overstays in the United States, the White House said in a memorandum.

"Within 120 days of the date of this memorandum, the Secretary of State, in consultation with the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security, shall provide to the President recommendations to reduce B-1 and B-2 nonimmigrant visa overstay rates from the identified countries," the memorandum said on Monday.

Trump is requesting his administration engage with the governments of countries with a total overstay rate greater than 10 percent in combined B-1 and B-2 nonimmigrant visa category, the memorandum said.

The memorandum said recommendations may include suspending or limiting entry of nationals from specified countries who hold B-1 or B-2 visas; suspending the visa issuance for certain nationals; or limiting the duration of admissions.
